People look a lot of places for answers when it comes to questions about their skin; Google, WebMD, “old wives tales”, tarot card readers, you get the point. Holly Hall happens to have a couple of dermatologists on speed dial so we’ll text them your questions and share with you their responses.
Question: Is alcohol bad in skin care products?
Dermatologist #1 (My dad): No but it depends on the amount. If there’s a lot or your skin is sensitive to it, it can cause dryness or irritation of the skin. Since products don’t list how much of an ingredient is in the product on the bottle, it’s something you have to determine on a case by case basis.
Dermatologist #2 (My older brother): I don’t believe so, but too much can lead to dehydration, wrinkles or dullness of the skin.
The Derms are on the same page here. Alcohol shouldn’t be cancelled in skin care products but be mindful of overuse.
