One of the biggest reasons people don’t adopt a skin care regimen is because they don’t know where to start. Here are 4 easy steps you can take to improve your routine before you even purchase a single skin care product.
Drink water regularly. When you don’t drink enough water, your skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores become more prominent. Proper hydration helps improve the appearance and elasticity of your skin, so you’re less likely to have cracks, irritations or blemishes.
Wear sunscreen regularly. Everyone loves being outside in the sun, but it’s important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Sunscreen blocks these rays and greatly reduces the likelihood of getting sunburned, UV damage and over time, contracting skin cancer. Make sure your sunscreen has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, and apply it indoors or in the shade so that you don’t rinse or sweat it off before sun exposure. Lastly, don’t forget to re-apply every couple of hours.
Get some rest. Just like every other part of your body, our skin rests and rejuvenates itself while we sleep. If we don't get enough rest, our skin doesn't get the time it needs to properly repair itself, and this can ultimately interfere with wound healing, cause inflammation and even lead to acne breakouts.
- Get to know your skin. I know we’re all busy, but taking the time to pay attention to small things like if your skin is oily when you wake up or dry before you go to sleep can help inform you on how to build a regimen when you’re ready to take that first step.
